Steeped in a rich history, the region has wineries and vineyards over 25 years old. The old vines produce delicious Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Rosé and a world famous lineup of sparkling wines. These wines exude the region’s unique high mountain/northern desert environment that is remarkable for its intensely hot, short growing season with hallmark cool evenings. The terroir features limestone, granite and volcanic rock on a silt base. An ideal climate and minerality for growing premium estate wines.
Summerland is located between Kelowna and Penticton in picturesque rolling hills at the foot of Giant’s Head Mountain – an extinct volcano that you can drive, cycle or walk a trail up to the top of. Forested parkland slopes sweep down to farmlands of orchards, market gardens, and vineyards. Precipitous and sundrenched clay cliffs and narrow gulches plunge to Okanagan Lake with spectacular views of the lake and the striking Naramata Bench on the east side of the lake.
An idyllic and charming community Summerland is full of delightful surprises. The True Grain Bakery offers hearty, whole-grained European breads, The Beanery Café has Organic coffees and tasty teas with fresh baked goods, and the Local Lounge and Grill proffers fine dining with an alfresco gourmet lunch and a seasonal and local menu paired with Summerland wines.
